How do you know how much space it will take to save all the game saves, pics, movies, etc. off of my PS3 hard drive and onto a usb flash drive? I have a 32gb already, but I have around 70gb of stuff on my PS3 hard drive so would I need another usb flash drive or not? I know I don't need to save my online stuff or downloads but don't how to tell how much space each item is taking on the hard drive, does it say somewhere. I need to know because I'm getting a new hard drive since my 80gb is almost full. And also if I have to buy another flash drive then I would have to get a cheaper hard drive since I only can spend so much on this upgrade.

When you find your device on the xmb, press triangle and you'll find something that shows you how much space your device has available.

You will need to back up all saved data before removing your HDD otherwise as you said you'll lose saved data and then the HDD will reformat once you install it in another PS3 ! Just make sure you back up all saved data using the PS3's backup utility ! For more details click the link ! The Backup Utility feature can be used to create a back-up of all data from the PS 3 system's Hard Disk Drive (HDD) on a removable storage media (such as, USB storage device, MemoryStick, SD Memory Card, or CompactFlash. This feature can also be used to restore data that has already been backed up.
