Does anyone know if a new ps3 has preloaded firmware?

I need to know if a new ps3 has firmware on it when I buy it.
This information would really help me decide whether to buy a new or used ps3.

most likely when you install the ps3 and try to get online it will say the newest firmware must be needed to go online

All PS3s have firmware on it. The X-Factor is what version of the firmware it has.



I really don't understand how this affects whether you buy new or used. New PS3s won't have the latest firmware of course; the model you buy likely didn't come off the assembly line last week. But you're only forced to upgrade if you wanna get online. Sure, a used PS3 may likely have the latest firmware installed, but its not that hard to update the PS3 firmware.

I am certain it does. The old PS3 will have firmware as well just not as new of a version.
