PS3 connection problems?

I just got a new 320 GB PS3 Slim and am having connection problems. I'm connecting it wirelessly, but shortly afterward it will disconnect from media servers, PSN, and the internet. I am unable to perform some basic updates because the connection won't last for more than 15 seconds. What do I do?

Note that I have other stuff connected to this router, like my Wii, 360, 3DS, desktop, laptop, and whatnot, so I don't want to screw all that up to fix this.

Also, I don't use a firewall because it made connecting stuff to my router too much of a hassle.

Try going into the admin settings on your router and see if it is blocking the PS3 IP address from downloading or connecting.

One sure way to make sure that there is as little disturbance as possible is to add the IP address to the DMZ server on your router. This will basically prioritise the PS3 usually without having any impact on anything else which connects via your router. To do this enter the admin settings on your router, search for DMZ and you should find an option to add the PS3's IP address. I had to do this with my father's router so that he could download the update.

Failing these, you mentioned that the router and PS3 were fairly close.. perhaps try a wired connection.

I would do what Dane said first, check the DMZ info and/or use a wired connection if possible.

Another option is to configure the PS3 network settings manually. For manual configuration, see here:

You may also want to be sure you have a NAT Type 2 connection. You can check this by using the internet test if it stays active long enough:

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test

If it's not Type 2, see here for making an Open NAT 2 connection:

mybe theres something wrong with the connection,I also had this problem when i first bought my console, but fortunately it worked after a few times of trying.Try updating or doing ur stuff during midnights or the not so PEAK hours of using the internet, coz maybe theres too much usage of other internet users of ur ISP.If this would not work try testing the connection first then do ur thing again.hope this works.GOD bless
