Does the PlayStation Vita actually play the games from the cartridge?

I'm getting a Vita and was wondering if a larger memory card is necessary for me. Does the Vita actually us the game cartridge to play the game or does it download the data off of the card?

You get a game bubble when you insert the cartridge, when you take the game out the game bubble is still there, so if you insert it, you just need to touch the game bubble and play, you do not need a big memory card if your going to be buying game cartridges.

It runs the games off the cartridge (unless you download the game on PS Store of course). If it downloads the game off the cartridge, it will waste heaps of space and it will be a nuisance. You should still get a memory card though.
