Question:
Should I download a PS3 game when the original disc causes a problem with the system?

Here it goes. I have NBA 2K12 for the PS3. But whenever I put it in, it becomes SUPER LAGGY making it unplayable. It's so choppy, you hear sound every 3 seconds. And I notice when I hold the PS button and bring up the "Quit game" option, it lags as well. Btw, I have a HDMI cable plugged in to the PS3. Idk if that's causing the problem, but it doesn't lag or become choppy to my other games. Well, first I want to see if anyone could get that resolved. Second, if I download the same game via PlayStation Store, will the same problem occur? And will all my saved data be on the downloaded file?

Well here's the thing buddy, if the problem also happens with other games then it probably will also happen when you download it from PSN store, I assume it doesnt happen with other games though since you didnt mention it, I would suggest going to the "Game data utility" and deleting the 2k12 game data NOT the save data and re run the game on the disc, it could possibly be a bad install, however thats quiet unlikely, if its still laggy then, then buy it off the PSN store, and it should load up the saved data on your ps3 as long as you dont delete that too, and only delete the Game Data when reinstalling, if your data dont work you can always just download one from savedgamedata.com (bookmark the site for emergency use also check if they have it now)

As per previous answer, delete all associated game data for the game, and try again. It sounds like a bad install. So you can try to download it, but that may not fix it if it's bad data causing the issue. But to answer the main question, yes, saved data will still be available as it's separate from the game data itself.
