My PS3 seems to be very close to getting the YLOD and if i was to buy a new PS3 could i put my old PS3 hard drive into it so i can keep my online account, as i have forgotten the password and my email address is not mine (i was stupid and thought if i used mine it would cost me, very dumb, i know). Thanks, Mike.

The first thing the ps3 will do when you take a hdd from one ps3 to antoher is reformat it (erase all memory). However your online info is stored on the sony servers so you wont loose any of that info. However you will loose all game save data & whatever pictures/songs/movies you have on the hdd

PS3 stressful tension records is tied to that particular PS3 and that PS3 in basic terms. putting it in the different PS3 interior the universe will format the stressful tension, deleting all the guidance. So, do no longer do it. :) What you would be able to desire to do is connect the two consoles with an Ethernet cable and run the guidance pass application. i think this deletes all the guidance on the previous PS3. in spite of the undeniable fact that, this does not contain on line records, it is proper on your PSN identity and stored on on line servers. Your trophies are not on the two one in all your PS3s. Its on a internet database someplace interior the international (anyplace Sony laptop leisure retains their servers). they're in basic terms stored on the PS3 in case you at the instant are not syncing them to the PSN community.

your PSN account is managed outside the console, so yes your account would still be there.

however you have a BIG problem. each PS3 HDD is formatted for one console. once formatted, it can only be used on that console.

in other words, if you try to switch consoles, you will have to reformat. which means, you will lose all saved data, and will have to re-enter your login and password. since you have/know niether, you are in quite a pickle.

though you could always create another PSN account.

Nor your online content nor your account have anything to do with your hardware. It's Online.

Edit: Thumbs down, really?

When you open up a Yahoo! Account for example, you can access it from any computer, right? That's because it is on the Yahoo! server, not on your computer. The same concept applies for the Playstation account.

Buy the slim and do the ethernet transfer method (also called Data Transfer Utility) and you can move your stuff out before the house starts burning.
