OK, I have had a 360 since the Winter of 2006, and I just got a PS3 this week. Honestly, if I had to buy just one system, I would totally go for the PS3. It is better in almost every way. It is built much better, has a lot more features, built in wireless that works flawlessly, of course the best Blu-ray player on Earth - because it is constantly updated, and now a great collection of games. Once you play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune you will be totally hooked. Also, there are approximately 180 games scheduled for release for the PS3 this year alone, and all the movie studios have moved to Blu-ray. The 360 is definitely great, but if I had to pick just one, go with the PS3! Pick up The Orange Box, Resistance Fall of Man and Drake's Fortune and you will be set for a while. You can also get Oblivion, if you are into RPG's.

i had more but...i either gave them away or i traded them lol

same with the systems...

i had about 30 gamecube games and i had a SNES,NES,N64...

anyways to ur real question

the playstation 3 has free online play...if your not willing to pay for playing online with the 360 then i recommend getting the ps3 instead, its not as laggy as u might think....hell...its not laggy at all really(depends what game u are playing i guess like call of duty 4 will rarely lag)

i dont recommend the wii if u say ur a hardcore gamer...

you wont find many hardcore games.

the 360 has halo 3...gears of war...also has Call of duty 4..

all great games but you'll have to pay for online IF u want online.

and yes the 360 gets the red ring of death in the first few weeks u get it.

so if ur getting a 360 you better get warranty

I'd go for the PS3 you'll save £50 a year! And it's got some really good games out for it, Rainbow six 2, uncharted and Burnout Paradise!

yes Xbox is the worse console you can get...and for several reasons....just imagine...YOU have to PAY to play on-line...and with PS3 you don't....

the PS3 has a blu-ray disc player built-in.....which i the next generation on the way we watch movies...and the Xbox doesn't...the resolution on the xbox is crappy it don't matter what kind of tv you have it will look really bad...

The PS3 looks way better talking about the device...i really love the color and the design they put on it...they wanted to make sure you as a smart consumer where able to buy quality.....cuz that's way they know how to do.....i mean think about it...microsoft...suck's even in computers....mac is better....so i don't see why anyone will buy a xbox....the games...yes they may have some really good games...but remember...for PS3 you have gran turismo 5 coming out....and maybe God of war 3 in 09....not only that i think the game play in PS3 is as the other PS1/2 it's way...way better you can hold that controller in your hands comfortable...not like the one in an xbox is like holding a shoe...so this is my opinion.....PS3 is better overall.....

I have all 3 systems, and honestly, I play the ps3 the most. The xbxo 360 has not given me any real problems, but I still don't trust playing it more than 2 hours at a time because of the RRoD. The wii is not all that great. It has no real good games for me, and the fact that the wii's "friend's list" is terrible makes me use it the least (seriously, your friends are listed as numbers instead of names/nicknames).

I don't have much time to write reviews, but if you email me I'll be happy to write some reviews. There are many 360 games that you can get. I have a 360 and i have gone through dozens of games. here are the ones that i recommend. star wars episode 3 dance dance revolution universe guitar hero 2 halo halo 2 viva pinata superman returns lego star wars sonic marvel ultimate alliance destroy all humans (not sure if it is on 360 too) eragon halo wars mass effect king kong blazing angels spiderman 3 tmnt tony hawk american wasteland tony hawk project 8 ghost recon Star Wars: The Force Unleashed That is all I can think of right now. Are you getting the regular 360 or the pro? I would've been able to list alot more if you would've specified that. Thanks. Please choose as best answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This question is so often!!! :-)

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.

2). PS3 has 7 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.

3). PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 25 (single layer) and dual layer 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 50$. Besides, HD-DVD had lost the format war with Blu-ray. Toshiba had stopped to manufacture them, Microsoft too.

4). Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second

Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second

5). PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.

Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.

6). PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers

Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers

7). PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)

Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

8). From the first technical sight - graphics are stronger in 360 (it has a stronger graphics chip - Xenos), BUT PS3 can use it's Cell CPU for graphics too, which gives you better graphics in total. PS3 uses a weaker RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. Xbox isn't that versatile in dividing tasks between CPU and GPU as PS3. That's why PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.

9). Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

10). Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).

When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

11). In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......

12). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

13). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.

14). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).

15). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.

16). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.

17).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.

18).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.

19). PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) on 15.04.2008, Japan already has it. On www.ebay.com I saw those controllers on sale 50$ and up (unofficial import).

20).On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.

21).New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.

22). But, to be just, I'm not a PS3 fanboy, so (despite I own one) hear this - PS3 games (exclusives) are very hard to develop due to complicated Cell's architecture. We have to wait till developers will figure out how to develop games properly. Sometimes multiplatform games run not so good on PS3 due to the same developing issues - it's hard for developers to get a grip on such advanced technologies.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.

Ok since you like harddcore games, you will need either a PS3 or 360. For me, i say get a PS3 because it's worth it. I have both a 360 and PS3, and the 360 only failed on me once during 06. Yes, if people cannot maintain their 360, they will eventually get the RROD.

Get a PS1 because...

. It is worth it because you can play HD games, IM people, message people, talk with people online via message or video, music, pictures, video, HD video and blu ray. Oh, and we got some cool games coming soon like GTA IV, Tekken 6, MSG4 and some others. Also, the online is free. Oh, and PS3 HOME is coming soon, which is like a PS3 Sims. You can chat with people in a 3D world, play games, watch stuff and many other things.

2. Well it really depends on you. If you have alot of PS2 games, I suggest the 60 and 80gb models. But ill break it down for you. Theres 4 models, 20, 40, 60, 80gb. But right now the 20 and 60GB models are out of production, so you gotta get them online or from a friend.

20 - base model. no chrome, wifi and memory card readers. Can play any PS game.

40 - stripped down model. All the features EXCEPT ONLY 2 USB ports, no memory card readers and cannot play PS2 games.

60 - awesome model. Fully loaded and can play all PS2 games.

80- fully loaded, can also play all PS2 games.

3. No problems as of right now. But you shouldnt worry because the PS3 has only a .3% of failure. You could leave in on for 15+ hours straight, and it will still run like a champ. Why do you think it costs so much? =D This isnt a wii or 360.

4. The blu ray is fantastic! (yes its BLU RAY; not blue ray) I can tell you that it's way better than HD DVD. Blu ray can hold 25gb single laye; 50gb double. And you can view everything in a glorious 1080p @ about 25-30+ MBPS. Yes that is amazing. You can see every detail, and the sound is great. It's like a movie experence.

5. Yes you should wait for the PS3 home coming in an update soon, the DUALSHOCK 3 (this controller viabrates and has the sixaxis. YUM) Uhh and if you want to wait for the 80gb to come back June 12. It comes in a bundle. It has the 80gb PS3 , a copy of MSG4 (Metal Gear Solid 4) and a DUALSHOCK 3. The PS3 is great, and you wont regret it.

I hope you make a wise choice, and have fun. dont forget to choose a best answer.

Well for a hardcore gamer your choice is really down to the PS3 or 360. Here is a comparison;

Graphics

Ignore all the direct comparisons about dot pixels, shader ops per second etc. For the most part they are meaningless numbers as far as game playing is concerned.

The more advanced Xenos has unified shaders, rather than the fixed pixel and vertex shaders of the RSX. This means that the Xenos can run with all the with all 48 shaders busy, rather than on the PS3 where some of its fixed shaders are likely to be unused. It results in a more powerful Graphics processor (tbc)

Processor

The 360 has 3 PPC cores, with SIMD (single instruction multiple data) extensions (each Core can process as either a CPU or a Vector processor). The Cell has one PPC core and six SIMD processors (Cell has 8, 1 redundant, and 1 reserved for OS).

Vector processors are very good at doing computations, or the same operation on multiple bits of data at the same time. This is the ideal kind of processor for graphics*, physics or sound which is exactly the kind of thing a games console spends most of its time doing.

The problem is that SIMD processors require the programmer optimize their code in a certain way. This requires different thinking and experience.

* in fact the GPU is a prime example of a specialized SIMD processor.

Storage

Blu-ray beats DVD9 hands down, in every respect it is faster* and much larger. Larger means bigger games, and better graphics (most games graphic is pre-render and just assembled by the console (with some effects added), more space means better graphics). The PS3's all come with a hard drive, so games can cache data for faster reading.

* Technically there are parts of DVD9 that read faster than the blu-ray (blu-ray reads the same speed throughout the whole disk, DVD9 is faster on the outer edge)

Graphic's revisited.

Although head to head the 360's GPU is more powerful the PS3 is designed to utilize the SPE's to supplement the power of the RSX, at it's very simplest an SPE could be considered a GPU pipeline (one that runs six times as fast!) since it is a lot more flexible it would be wasted simply acting as a shader.

Typically in a game pre-rendered textures are overlaid on a series of polygons (vertices). Blu-ray offers a huge advantage for graphical content because it allows so much more space for graphical data, like textures. More background detail can be pre-rendered and streamed, you can have more textures, more objects and a bigger game.

Games

The 360 has a much larger catalog than the PS3, and some pretty good exclusives. Early dual releases look or ran much better on the 360 as developers produced lazy PS3 ports. Recent releases like Assassins Creed, Devil may cry 4 and Call of Duty 4 look and play the same on both Consoles.

There is a growing catalog of exclusive releases for the PS3, taking advantage of the cell and blu-ray to produce games that are simply not possible on the 360.

Memory

Both Consoles have the same amount of memory, though it is configured differently, there are pluses and minuses to both configurations. You will often see a figure quoted on bandwidth with the 360 having 256GB/S, it does for all of 10MB. The effective bandwidth is similar on both Consoles.

Online

For most people whose online experience consists of matchmaking for multiplayer the services are essentially the same. Xbox live has more additional functionality than PS3, but then it costs $50/year rather than being free.

Reliability

The PS3 failure rate is quoted at between 0.5-2%, the 360 has failure rates of between 16-33%.

Other

The PS3 has built in wireless and you can watch blu-ray movies and DVD's without requiring additional purchases.

Cost

The 360 is cheaper, but in the case of 360 vs PS3, you get what you pay for.
