If you're using the same AV cable, that's the problem. If you're using a HDTV you should only be using a HDMI cable. Composite video does not support HD resolutions.
HDMI cables are $5 or less online if you can't find a cheap one in stores. There is no reason to spend a lot of money on a HDMI cable. Either it works perfectly or it doesn't work at all.
Anyways, remove the composite cable from the PS3. Connect the HDMI cable. When you power on the PS3, hold the power button down for a few seconds until it beeps twice. This will reset the video settings so it will use the HDMI cable.
Then sit back and enjoy crisp HD graphics.

What are you using to connect them? If you are still using the same AV cables at 480i, yeah. It's going to look like crap. The fact that CRT TVs sort of blur pixels by how the image scanning works helps make the 480i image look "better".
When that 480i image gets turned into blur-free pixels like a computer monitor (LCD screens) and then blow up a 480i image to the size of a large TV, it really does start to look like crap.
You should invest in an HDMI cable (if you can wait for shipping time, look at http://monoprice.com you can get a 3 or 4 ft HDMI cable for under $5 plus shipping. All of my HDMI cables that didn't come with the systems came from that web site).
Once you use HDMI and then can set the resolution to 720p or 1080p (depending on your new TV maximum) it will look a LOT better.

Do you have hdmi cable? Because if you do not have hdmi cable, you must been using av cable which is making the graphic look low quality on your tv,go buy an hdmi cable.

Go into settings and change it to 1080p. it may be at 420 or whatever by default. thats what happened to me. Use an hdmi cable and go to the settings and change the video settings.
