YLOD can sometimes be caused by the hard drive, but its pretty rare. Most YLOD problems are caused by the solders cracking on the motherboard and the reflow you mentioned above re-attatches them.
Reflows are going to be a temporary fix, no matter how good of a job you do, so be aware that you will have to buy another console in the future, one way or the other. Also be aware that not all YLODs can be fixed. Some consoles stay dead forever once they die.
Gilsky arguably has the best repair guide and should be on Youtube or the Playstation Forums if you search his user name.

I think sony should spend some time and investigate the YLOD, bc no body know whats causing it. But on the other hand this happens to some thousands unlucky ps3 owners. I have my ps3 80 gb for more than a year now and haven't gotten it yet, hope I never will.

The yellow light means the hard drive broke or doesnt work no more. Take it to a video game store they charge 50-70 dollars to replace
