I read online before i bought the playstation 3 that it played ps2 games too. But when i put in a playstation 2 game it says " Unsupported Data- This model of the PS3 is not compatible with PS2 format software." My PS3 has 56 GB/ 74 GB. Is there anything i can do to fix this and play PS2 games?

Older models of PS3 used to be backwards compatible.

20GB

60GB

Older 80GB with 4 USB ports, MGS4/Motorstorm bundle, could play 80% of PS2 games.

None of the newer models with 2 USB ports, can play them,

Newer 80GB with 2 USB ports

160GB

120GB (slim)

250GB (slim)

There is no way to make them play PS2 games!

Wrong 80GB PlayStation 3 model. The right one is the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 "Gun Metal Gray" Edition. It's the one with the four USB ports in the front. Other PS2 compatible models are the old 20GB and 60GB versions (there was only one version of each, so there wouldn't be any confusion there)

If you aren't too too anxious to play your PS2 games, you can wait a while. Rumors say that Sony has made plans to release a PS2 Emulator via the PlayStation Store which will allow you to play any PS2 game you have on disc. They are also planning to release PS2 and Sega Dreamcast games through the PlayStation Store, as well.

If you can't wait, try selling that model or trading it for the right one through Craigs List, eBay, a pawn shop or a store that still has the MGS4 one in stock.

Sorry for the confusion =(

UPDATE: The "Gun Metal Gray" PS3s DO NOT have 4 USB ports. They only have 2. Also, you can tell if it's the real one by looking at the bottom of the PS3. It should say "Metal Gear Solid 4: Limited Edition"

The new 80GB PS3 cannot play PS3 games. It should say that on the box. The old 80GB that came bundled with MGS4 or Motorstorm, played about 75% of PS2 games, and the original 60GB played 99% of PS2 games. The software that you downloaded is for use with already backwards compatible PS3's only. It is to make them function better, it is NOT an emulator. There is currently no way to mod a PS3 and make it BC. Sony have recently acquired an emulator, but it is unlikely that it will be able to make non-BC PS3's play all PS2 games, because to do that, the PS3 needs hardware built into it as well as software. This emulator will probably be used to anable Sony to add some PS2 games to the PSN store for download, hopefully, all PS3's will be able to play that selection of games. But we don't know yet for sure, it's all speculation. If you want to be able to play all your PS2 games, unfortunately, you will have to use a PS2 to do it:) :)

My PS3 is the same it doesn't play PS2 games because it's the newer model of the 80 GB but if you want to play PS2 games you should have bought a PS2 you can get them cheap.

You have the new 80 GB core model. This PS3 will not play PS2 games. No, there is nothing you can do; no memory card adapter or anything will fix this. All you can do is buy a PS2 console.

Penny stocks are loosely categorized companies with share prices of below $5 and with market caps of under $200 million. They are sometimes referred to as "the slot machines of the equity market" because of the money involved. There may be a good place for penny stocks in the portfolio of an experienced, advanced investor, however, if you follow this guide you will learn the most efficient strategies https://tr.im/c8109

If it has 2 USB ports you were ripped off in thinking it played PS2 games. There is NOTHING you can do about it.
