Hi I would like to know what are the differences between the current mainstream 40gb ps3 (with the two USB ports and no backwards compatibility) and the new 80gb one that will be released later this summer in the UK (when exacty?) i understand that the main difference is the 40gb in hdd. the new one will also lack backwards cmpatibility (which im not concerned about) and have the same 2 usb ports. Thats all fine(i can upgrade the hdd later if required), but I have read rumours about this new 80gb version having a smaller more efficient processor and GPU than previous versions. Does this mean that the console will run and perform better? What about graphics? I wish sony would not have released so many versions of consoles..it makes it rather confusing.
I will be going to UK soon, but will not go there after this trip for a long while. So I think I may only have the option of picking up the 40gb this time as I don't intend to wait longer. Will i be missing out on something? Thanks in advance for the help!

The new 80 gig is EXACTLY the same as the 40 gig except it has an extra 40 gigs, it is also the same price.

The hardware [GPU etc] is completely the same.

Everything about all of the consoles hardware is the same all that changed were holes and the backwards compatability [and the HDD size...].

If you were planning on upgradding the HDD you may as well get a 40 gig now.

Graphically multi-platform video games are the in regards to the same. while builders make pastime that are for the two structures they advance them on the 360 then port them over to the PS3. They do this using fact PS3 is able to working at 360 however the 360 cant run PS3 video games reason the blu-ray disc that PS3 makes use of helps way extra advantageous area to characteristic image textures and so on. using fact of this video games like Gears Of conflict and metallic kit stable are some the the superb graphical video games reason they are unique titles. metallic kit stable which for my section is likely one in all the extra suitable video games in terms of photos wouldnt have the flexibility to be ported to 360 using fact the pastime grew to become into stepped forward on a blue-ray disc which contains extra advantageous area than a regular disc that 360 makes use of. If metallic kit stable grew to become into to be ported to 360 it would the two could be scaled lower back graphically so it ought to extra healthful onto a regular disc or it would could be a distinctive disc pastime.

The 80gb PS3 is almost the same as the 40 gb except for the fact the 80gb can play PS2 games although with not as good quality. Also the 80gb is $100.00 more.

Even if it did have a "smaller more efficient processor", all that means is the PS3 wouldn't put quite as big of a dent in your electiric bill.
