I'm looking to buy one. Can I change the language on the console? Will everything work fine, like the games and the online play?
Please answer this, no answers such as "Just buy an american one" because there is a certain one that's only in Japan I plan on buying.

the only problem that you have got with a japanese ps3 is that it wont play region 1 dvd's which are american dvd's, it will only play european and japanese dvd's which are region 2 but it will play region A blu-rays which are a american and japanese,,

the japanese uses NTSC-J while american its NTSC the only difference is

Only Japan's variant "NTSC-J" is slightly different: in Japan, black level and blanking level of the signal are identical (at 0 IRE), as they are in PAL, while in American NTSC, black level is slightly higher (7.5 IRE) than blanking level. Since the difference is quite small, a slight turn of the brightness knob is all that is required to correctly show the "other" variant of NTSC on any set as it is supposed to be; most watchers might not even notice the difference in the first place. The channel encoding on NTSC-J differs slightly from NTSC-M. In particular, the Japanese VHF band runs from channels 1-12 while the American VHF band uses channels 2-13.

the only other thing is that a japanese ps3 menu will just be in japanese and im not sure if you will be able to change the language due to its meant for the japanese people

i will assure that pastime profiles soak up an extremely minimum quantity of area. i will circulate forward and bypass what you reported. For the main area, they're incredibly comparable. the only distinction between the 40GB and new 80GB fashions(and GB capacity GigaByte, so G is technically incorrect) and the 60GB and old 80GB fashions is that the latter 2 have flash card readers (SD, memory Stick professional Duo, etc), 4 USB ports incredibly of two, and the element next to the disc tray opens up for the flash enjoying cards. yet another distinction is that an identical fashions have a chrome end, and there are vents next to the USB ports. The 60GB and 80GB fashions surely have a various HDD cage. different than that, they're incredibly lots comparable.

The Japanese use a different power source so you probably won't be able to directly plug it into the American outlets
