western digital mybook 500gb usage with ps3?

i have just bought a WD mybook 500gb edition and have transfered all my movies onto it from my pc. i plugged it into my ps3 and it isnt showing the contents of the drive. when i have used 1gb memory sticks to play films on the ps3 its worked fine is there anything i need to do with the mybook?

IN WINDOWS, RIGHT CLICK THE DRIVE ICON AND SELECT FORMAT. CHANGE THE FILE SYSTEM TO FAT32 AND CHOOSE QUICK FORMAT. RECOPY ALL YOUR STUFF ONTO THE DRIVE AND PS3 WILL RECOGNISE IT NOW.

ANOTHER WAY TO GET MEDIA ON YOUR PS3 IS TO;



I now stream all my media to my PS3 via my PC wirelessly. Dont worry, its not as daunting as it sounds.



All you do is download TVersity from http://www.tversity.com

Its a media server. Add all your files to it on your PC.



On your PS3, enable media server connection and it will automatically pick up and connect to it. You can now watch everything on your PS3 and copy what you want as well.

It IS possible to use your hard drive with the ps3(i've done it!) The trick is that you have to partition the hard disk into smaller pieces. My WD drive came preformatted as a 500GB NTFS. The PS3 wont read it this way.



The PS3 is only compatible with FAT and FAT32 partition schemes(and many non-Windows partition schemes). The Windows OS is only capable of reading FAT32 partitions 32GB or smaller.



Its possible, but a DLNA solution may be easier in the long run.



You can use a program like Norton's Partition Magic to break your drive into smaller partitions, but remember the 32GB limit. You must also be aware that FAT32 limits the file size of a single file to 4GB
