how to connect 2 PS3's via crossover cable? Modern Warfare 2?

I'm trying to connect two PS3's via crossover cable, crossover cable is our only option, we cannot connect together via the internet (we're in Uni halls).

Both of the PS3's and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been updated today.

We plug the cables in to each PS3. We then started the game and tried to play LAN party, but we couldn't see each other's games.

So we went to network settings and set all our IP address info the same. We then started the game, and we could see each other's game. But when the other person tries to connect to the other game, the connection just times out....

Are we missing something?

Yes it sounds like you are missing something. A crossover cable should work just fine as it's used to connect two like devices together. The issue I think you are having is you made the information EXACTLY the same. So I'm going to assume you made the IP, Subnet, DNS, etc. all the same. The reason why you could see each other is because you were then on the same network (subnet/gateway, can't remember EXACTLY how the PS3 settings are) what you need to do is keep everything how it is, but change the IP address on one of the PS3's.



For example if both of your IP addresses are 192.168.1.1 you should change one of them to 192.168.1.2 that way when you go to connect you aren't both using the same IP address. Hopefully this will help you out!

This actually is happening to me right now to so your not alone...I was thinking maybe my game or ps3 was defective but seeing as theirs other people having this problem it must have something to do with the update that we had to download. Hopefully its gets fixed soon.

you need a switch and 2 ethernet cables. at least thats how I do it

It should be in one of the booklets and there's a diagram on the box... plus you have to have the cable (duh... :P) but anyways it shouldn't be hard.
